LEAD: Winn-Dixie has announced a change in their customer facemask policy.

In a sudden reversal Jacksonville-based supermarket chain Winn-Dixie joins a growing number of stores requiring Customers wear masks. In a statement Monday parent company Southeastern Grocers says the mask requirement that goes into effect July 27th is in response to the continued rise of positive COVID cases in southeast communities. Director of Corporate Communications and Government Affairs Joe Caldwell took the statement a step further in advocating legislation that would remove the burden of enforcement from frontline workers.

LEAD: A Policy Change is coming to Winn-Dixie next week...

Winn-Dixie has changed its mind about mask requirements as positive cases in Florida exceed 10,000 for the fifth consecutive day. The Jacksonville-based company attributes the policy change to the continued rise of positive COVID cases in the southeast. In a statement issued Monday Southeastern Grocers Director Joe Caldwell called on lawmakers to remove the burden of enforcement from employers, saying that it should be placed on state and federally elected officials. Customers will be required to wear masks beginning July 27th.
